Stub End
A short fitting with a lapped face, used with a loose backing flange so the flange can rotate for bolt alignment.
The stub end carries the gasket face in the line material while a carbon steel backing flange carries the bolt load, which saves alloy on expensive grades and lets the flange be rotated to line up bolt holes during erection. Type A, B and C differ in lap radius and which flange they suit, so the type must be stated with the size and rating.
