Bevel

The end preparation machined on a butt weld fitting to ASME B16.25 so it matches the welding procedure.

Standard bevel is 37.5 degrees with a 1.6 mm root face for walls up to about 22 mm; heavier walls use a compound bevel. Where the fitting and pipe differ in wall, the thicker component is taper bored internally at a maximum 1:3 slope so the bore lines up — skipping that taper leaves a stress riser exactly where the weld root is.
